Sisters

I have been following these sisters since their infancy.  Their Mom always allows me the creative freedom to document "as they are."  Cora, the youngest, is full of the best kind of youth -- ready to laugh, twirl and adventure the minute I pick up my lens.  Sylvia, the eldest, is a bit more introspective.  And as she is coming of age, there is an intuition I have when I point my lens at her.  She doesn't always need to "smile" for my lens or break out "all the pretty poses."  I like connecting with her because she is a very depthful soul.

This year, we created some wonderful moments at The Georgi on the Battenkill.  It is a magical community park owned and operated by the Town of Salem, NY.  I, myself, come here often on the super hot days of summer to wade or splash in the Battenkill River.  Flowers including hydrangea trees, black-eyed susans, coneflowers and hostas were on full display.  Cora had an agenda which included swimming and splashing in the river, in which she waited patiently for during the second half of the session.  At my suggestion, Sylvia had partaken in some silly hand games with her Mom to extract the elusive smile/laugh.  Getting creative to evoke a certain emotion is all part of the process sometimes!

I am so fortunate to be able to watch all of my recurring families, or as I would so fondly refer to as my "regulars," grow -- you know who you are!  Thank you for calling upon me year by year to preserve moments that can be looked back on for generations to come!

This final image is so endearing.  A simple gesture of brushing a child's hair out of their face is the best kind of understated love.  And even though Sylvia had been cropped, in camera, out of this moment, she too is mimicking a similar kind of action to her mother.  Swoon!
