A Day in the Life :: Grandkids

I am a storyteller, and boy, does this one image deliver! I don't have an arsenal of "pretty poses" -- it's not authentic, and it's not what I strive to provide for my clients. This entire collection is full of little "stories." I will dish out more backstories to the moments along the way, but as for the image above... humor is honestly the best way to get by at times! A tired toddler; an infant interested in said toddler's bink (and sad that he can't reach it); a grandmother laughing because , hey, why not?; and a school-aged boy fed up with everything! It just doesn't get any better than this!

One of the coolest parts of this session is that the grandparents, Rick & Tammy, hired me as a surprise to their adult children (featuring the kids)!! I have been chasing kiddos with my lens since 2009, so I know all too well the different stages each age goes through. I am pretty sure I was able to capture each child's essence, even through rising summer temps, tears, tiredness and indifference. Enjoy this collection!

The grandkids! There's a special kind of connection between tiny humans and their grandparents. It's less pressure & work, and more pleasure & enjoyment!

So much yes!

Lazy summer days of riding bike in the yard. Ah, youth -- this brings me back!

This is one of Tammy's grown children who did become aware of the session. But these images are still sure to be a wonderful surprise!

I don't know a single toddler who wouldn't smile and laugh while in a sand box! She was having a sad morning (everyone is allowed to wake up on the wrong side of the bed once in a while). It's also tough being on the cusp of 2! There are many seasons to this age! Many new milestones, along with being adorable and funny to dramatic and bold.

This one is definitely the "old soul".... the "thinker." I believe we were talking about drawing and drums at this point. He had a lot on his mind!

Throwing the ol' football around with Grandpa. Doesn't get much better!

I don't know what was said -- but he's concealing a laugh! It's a little secret moment between the two of them... and I love it!

Different moment, same sequence as the first image. Baby is close to taking that bink! Tammy (still smiling) with her arm around grandson, who draws the viewer in with his look of indifference! Love it just the same!

That's as close as I was going to get with an image of the three of them (brother & sister with baby cousin).

Onto the next activity... one of those cool disc swing seats!

We were all trying hard to bring happiness to this little girl! That might be a ghost of a smile on her face... not sure though. (The very next image in that particular sequence, not posted, was all tears).

I LOOOOVE this moment!

This is a more accurate depiction -- tired babe rubbing her eyes! But that's okay... it's the authentic story she told me on that very warm summer morning!
